Opportunity Zones are census tracts composed of economically distressed communities. They were created to revitalize distressed communities using private investments rather than taxpayer dollars. To stimulate participation, taxpayers (landlords) who invest in Qualified Opportunity Zones are eligible to receive tax incentives. Opportunity Zones are less restrictive and less reliant upon government agencies than tax credit programs designed. It was created in 2017 by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
